Thank you for the opportunity to share some information about my background and services. My name is John Palmer and I am a clinical social worker in private practice. I specialize in adult, adolescent, couple, and family therapy. I am a Certified Internal Family Systems therapist which I use as my main therapeutic modality.
Professional Training and Experience:
My professional story begins in 1995 when I earned my Masters of Social Work degree from The University of Texas at Austin. From there, I spent three years at Davis Psychotherapy Associates providing psychotherapy services to a diverse clientele. I also worked with the Austin Child Guidance Center from 1995 to 1999 where I received additional training and provided therapy services to children, adolescents, and their families.
With extensive training, experience, and a focus on helping individuals, couples, and families in Austin, I knew the time had come to go into private practice. I opened my practice in November 1998 and have been an active member of the national and local psychotherapist communities ever since.
As a lifelong learner who is passionate about helping others, I value continuing education. I trained to become a Certified Internal Family Systems Therapist, and a Level 2 Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapist (AEDP) therapist. In addition to using Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) for both individual and couples therapy, I help train other therapist in applying the model.
I am continually updating my knowledge through training, I also network and consult with other industry experts. For over 18 years, I have been involved with an on-going consultation and marriage and family therapy study group conducted by a prominent Austin psychologist.

Equally important, I will equip you with the tools needed to maintain your treatment gains.

I do not accept insurance; however, I will be happy to fill out the appropriate form for you to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.
